Kitchens are an integral hub in the home, and when it comes to completely redesigning how it looks, many homeowners are often hesitant to step out of their comfort zone and create something that they really want, fearing that it will change how the room feels.
Although the look of your kitchen will change, you will still be able to keep your kitchen functional, and when working alongside kitchen specialists like ourselves, you can create a style that fits the needs and role that your kitchen plays in your home.
So how can you choose a new kitchen style that suits you? Here are three simple things you should think about!
What Is Your Home Like?
If you have a running style that is already running through your home, you may want to try and incorporate some of the stylistic features within your kitchen to give a seamless transition between your kitchen and the rest of your home.
For example, if you have an ultra modern style in the rest of the house, try to incorporate some of the sleek, simple features that characterise the style within your kitchen. You can do this by choosing kitchen appliances which are simple in design, and incorporate the colours of the rest of your home within the kitchen through cupboards and other furniture.
What Materials Do You Like?
Believe it or not, the materials that you use within your home will determine the look of the room.
Natural materials will give a more country, fresh feel to a space, whereas manufactured plastics and other man-made materials will often give a more modern look.
If you have a particular material that you would like to use within your kitchen – for style or even maintenance reasons – you will want to think about whether that’s the kind of look and feel that you want your kitchen to have.
It might look good in your head or on paper, but it’s always best to discuss your ideas with your kitchen designer; they will often be able to create a visualisation for you to look at, or advise you using their experience as to how a certain material will affect the look.
We’ve already touched upon how to choose a kitchen colour scheme on our blog previously, but the colours that you choose really do affect the style of your kitchen and how it will look.
Whether you are looking to create a subtle, natural feel or a bright, bold modern kitchen space; it does all boil down to preference, but it’s important to think about how your colour will tie in to the rest of the home (if this is something you aspire to do) or even whether you will want to keep the colour scheme for a long time.
Neon, bright colours often become tiresome after a while, which is why people will tend to go for duller, more subtle shades if they want to incorporate some kind of colour within their kitchen. This can be done using contrasting colours throughout, including cupboards, walls and counter tops!
